Bruno Leti Solo Exhibition: The Vision of Horizon
17 September 2005 - 9 October 2005
Although Bruno Leti's fifty solo exhibitions over forty years have won international prizes and exhibitions, mainly in Melbourne, New York, Rome and Milan, this is the first time his work will have been seen in Kyoto.
Born in 1941 in Italy, emigrating to Victoria in 1950, one of the great pioneers of the monotype, Leti's gestural non-mimetic work is represented in major national, state and regional Australian collections, in private and public collections in the United States and in public collections in Italy, Germany, France and Great Britain.
His dynamically abstract paintings of energy trails and emotional lines are in direct relation to his body. Works like 'Golden Ground', 'Dry Lake' and 'Salt Pan' are complex constructions of paint to form a vibrant, gem-like and spiritual palimpsest.
Leti's work taps the eternal spirituality of the landscape which he overlays with a modernist impulse, contemporary Australian verse and traditional Italian techniques.
