Cathy Laudenbach at 3331 Arts Chiyoda

3331 Arts Chiyoda is an arts space for the convergence of national and international artists and their works. For about one month, Australian Photographer Cathy Laudenbach has been conducting an AIR 3331 residency.

In her work, Cathy is known for using the photographic medium to explore an invisible history that can linger in a particular place. In this new work, Cathy has been photographing in Koriyama, Japan. Koriyama has recently been effected by both the earthquake and the Fukushima nuclear leak.

Cathy Laudenbach:

Cathy Laudenbach is an Australian photographer who works with both analogue and digital photography. Cathy has an MFA from Monash University, Australia and currently lectures at the ANU School of Art, Canberra Australia. She is interested in history, memory and place and particularly how this relates and can be translated through contemporary documentary practices. Through numerous bodies of photographic work, both still and moving, she has previously investigated both inside and outside locations.

Her work is included in numerous collections including the National Library, Gold Coast Regional Gallery, Goulburn Regional Gallery, Albury Regional Gallery, Tweed Regional Gallery and Bathurst Regional Gallery in Australia and the Nara City Collection in Japan. She has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally in Germany and Japan. She has received numerous awards and grants and her work is featured in the new publication by Professor Anne Marsh on Australian Photography Look, Australian Contemporary Photography.　She has completed numerous residencies, and an experience of working an living in Japan for three years.
