Alex Kershaw at TWS creator in residence
5 January 2011 - 3 April 2011
Alex Kershaw, an Australian Sydney based visual artist has been a 'creator in residence' at Tokyo Wonder Site (TWS) since January 2011. Kershaw has been researching the history of Ikebana and its contemporary practice in different ikebana schools around Tokyo.
Several ikebana practitioners will collaborate with Kershaw which will result in a final video work. As part of this process, Kershaw has collected unrefined clay from Mashiko, a town famous for its pottery. This will be synthesised with the performative aspects of video work, and an Open Studio at TWS Aoyama will allow viewing of the process, accompanied by a talk by Gallery director Tomio Koyama (Tomio Koyama Gallery).
The outcome will be an exhibition at TWS Shibuya in April together with other residency artists.
