Pacific Music Festival Sapporo

9 July 2005 - 4 August 2005

From July 9 - August 4 2005, The Pacific Music Festival (PMF), founded in 1990 by Leonard Bernstein will be held in municipal halls in Hokkaido as well as in Osaka, Tokyo and at the Aichi World Expo during the tour to Nagoya. Leonard Bernstein, known as the premier conductor, composer and educator of the 20th century, formed the festival to share the joy of music with people around the world and educating aspiring musicians.

The program consists of the PMF Academy for which participants are selected through audition for Orchestra, Composition and String Quartet, a presentation of 45 performances by Academy participants, and Open Programs. A young 22 year old Austalian clarinetist David Rowden is honoured to be invited to participate in PMF 2005.

Participating orchestras will be the PMF Orchestra, the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. Major artists involved will be the Principle Conductor Nello Santi, Guest Conductor Jun Markl, Resident Conductor Sascha Goetzel, Composer in residence Detlev Glanert and Conductor and Musical Director of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra Otaka Tadaaki.
