Queensland Week at Aichi Expo 2005

11 April 2005 - 17 April 2005

Queensland's ongoing presence in the Australian pavilion throughout the six months of Expo will be highlighted during Queensland Week at Expo 2005, from April 11 to 17. Queensland art and culture will be showcased to international audiences when the Smart State takes centre stage for one week at World Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan. International visitors will be entertained and engaged by leading Queensland musicians, including Seaman Dan, Misinterprotato and stringmansassy. Alan Groves will sculpt a clay model of a dinosaur - Minmi Paravertebra - in the Australian Pavilion throughout the week.

Alan Groves

Alan Groves is fascinated by dinosaurs. This fascination has given him a worldwide reputation as a sculptor, model maker and special effects artist who specialises in designing and creating dinosaur models. Born in London, Alan is now based in Brisbane where he lives and works in the rainforest at Mt Glorious.

Having developed an interest in fantasy drawing and sculpture from an early age, Alan's career began in the film industry in the early 1980s while working for various special effects studios in London and later at Fox Studios in Sydney.

Alan will demonstrate his unique skills by sculpting a clay model of a Minmi Paravertebra -- a small armoured dinosaur that inhabited Queensland over 100 million years ago -- in the Australian Pavilion during Queensland Week at World Expo 2005. As well as entertaining international visitors, the demonstration will provide a unique insight into the amazing art of palaeo-reconstruction.
