Opal Dream

Starring Jacqueline McKenzie and Vince Colosimo, directed by The Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo and based on the novella by Ben Rice, this UK, Australian production Opal Dreams will be screened at the Yebisu Garden Cinema from late November.

Set in an opal town in Australia, A funny and uplifting story of the bizarre and inexplicable disappearance of Pobby and Dingan, the invisible friends of Kellyanne, the nine year old daughter of an opal miner. The story of Kellyanne's imaginary friends, and the impact they have on her family and the whole town is told through the eyes of Kellyanne's eleven year old brother Ashmol.

Cast

Jacqueline McKenzie

With her debut in the 1987 film Wordplay and strong impact in Romper Stomper (1992), Jacqueline has received Australian Film Institute Award nominations for her roles in Stark, This Won't Hurt a Bit (1993), The Battlers and Traps (1994), won two awards in 1995 for "Best Actress in a Television Drama" for Halifax f.p: Lies of the Mind, and "Best Actress in a Leading Role" for Angel Baby.

She has also acted in roles in the Deep Blue Sea (1999) and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002). In 2004 she played the lead female role in the television production of The 4400, one of the year's biggest successes.

Vince Colosimo

Known for his role in the Australian theatre blockbuster The Wogboys, which toured nationally in the mid 1990s and later adapted to a feature film in 2000, Colosimo has worked in A Streetcar Named Desire, The Club, Twelfth Night, Othello and PIAF for the Melbourne Theatre Company, Rose Tattoo for the State Theatre Company of South Australia, and Romeo And Juliet. Television work has included a sustaining role in All The Way and A Country Practice and guest roles in Good Guys Bad Guys, Halifax, Stingers and most recently Something In The Air.

His film credits include Street Hero and Moving Out for which he was nominated for the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Actor in 1984, and which won him the Sydney Film Critics Circle Award for best New Talent. He has most recently been seen in the feature films Wogboy and Andrew Dominik's successful and internationally acclaimed Chopper.
