Hyogo International Competition of Painting - The 10th Anniversary of Post-Earthquake Restration
17 January 2005 - 20 February 2005
In April 2002, the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art was inaugurated as a symbol of cultural restoration from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in the new urban center along the waterfront of eastern Kobe (HAT Kobe).
Since then, the Museum space, designed by world-famous architect Tadao Ando, has hosted a variety of events including concerts, movies and performances as well as exhibitions.
Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the post-earthquake restoration, the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art is holding this exhibition of 100 paintings selected from among 8,000 entries by 3,000 artists of 81 countries and areas. With the theme of "Renascence," this exhibition will reconfirm the preciousness of "living" and the importance of "restoration of mind" that many people have learnt from the costly experience of the earthquake.
Four Australian artists passed the first screening of this competition and their works are shown in the exhibition.
