28 September 2005 - 18 December 2005
The Yokohama International Triennale of Contemporary Art will be hosting Australia's most popular young artist, Shaun Gladwell and Craig Walsh from 28 September to 18 December 2005.
Shaun Gladwell presents video works of urban street culture - skateboarding, BMX, break dancing, hip hop, graffiti to render barren pockets of urban landscape into dramatic filmic sequences.
Born Sydney in 1972 and based in Sydney, Shaun Gladwell has been a member of the Australian artist collective Imperial Slacks since 2000. His major works include New Balance (Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, Perth, 2004) and Interlace (Performance Space, Sydney, 2004).
Message from the artist:
It is a great honour to produce new artwork for the yokohama trienniel and on this occasion I will use break dancing and skateboarding to investigate the physical and psychological dynamics of urban environments.
