Australia's No. 1 Jazz violinist George Washingmachine makes his Japan debut at the Aichi Expo
Violinist, George Washingmachine, swinging and eccentric singer as well as dazzling violin player, accomplished actor and unabashed showman, resuscitates the tunes of the past to give them a new lease of life at the Australian Pavillion, Aichi Expo. Guaranteed to be a joyous experience that will have the feet thumping and the heart pumping.
Washingmachine trained as a child for 7 years as a classical violinist, then formed his rhythm & blues band, The Dead Wringers in which he played guitar and sang. In 1984, George started playing jazz fiddle with The Conway Brothers Hiccup Orchestra in Sydney and since that time he has performed in countless bands and productions as a musician, actor and comedian both on stage and on screen: Sweet Atmosphere with Ian Date, Jalousie with Ignatius Jones, the Official Tribute To The Blues Brothers Show, Return To The Forbidden Planet, Bell Shakespeare Theatre Company, Circus Oz, Sydney Theatre Company, Please Send More Money (with Wendy Harmer), Chances, A Country Practice, to name a few.
Leader of the self-dubbed jazz community 'Bonzer Vista Social Club' which includes some of the biggest names in the Australian jazz world; Grahame Bell, Don Burrows, James Morrison, Bob Barnard, Ian Date, Monica Trapaga.
George has toured the world performing at the Athens Olympics, France, Holland, Martin Taylor's Guitar Festival and Edinburgh Jazz Festival in Scotland, Germany, Sweden, Finland, playing with Les Paul in New York and continues to appear at all the major jazz and arts festivals in Australia. His CDs include Sweet Atmosphere, Acid Trad, The Dee Why Sessions, Blue Point and Final Rinse.
Bringing the trio to Japan in 2005 will be a lead up to the 'Fiddle Festival in Japan' as part of the 2006 Australia-Japan Year of Exchange.
