Western Australian Celebration at Aichi Expo 2005

6 July 2005 - 8 July 2005

Western Australia will be featured in the Australian Pavilion at the 2005 World Expo Aichi, Japan from 6-8 July. The Western Australian celebrations are aimed at strengthening relationships between Western Australia and Japan to promote tourism throughout the State. A showcase of internationally renowned Western Australian artists will present their performance, music, art and sculpture.

Jamie Oehlers Quartet

Jazz musicians, the Jamie Oehlers Quartet, will be performing on the outdoor stage in Global Common 6 from 5-7 July 2005. Saxophonist Jamie Oehlers has performed in the United States, Asia, India, UK, Europe, New Zealand and throughout Australia with leading international jazz artists like Ronnie Scott, Cindy Blackman, Peter Leitch, John and Jeff Clayton, and James Morrison. Jamie was the winner of the 2003 White Foundation World Saxophone Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Children's Activity Book

A children's activity book about Western Australia will be available to children visiting the lower floor exhibition area in the Australian Pavilion during the Western Australian celebrations.

The Australian Resident Company (ARC)

The ARC will be performing premiere works throughout the Expo period in and around the Global Common 6 area. Two of the six performers are from Western Australia.

Nick Candy is a graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and has been acting, training, writing, devising, and performing impro- comedy for the last four years in Perth.

Jesse Rowles is a graduate of the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA), and has a predominantly martial arts background, with extensive experience in Muai Thai (kickboxing) and two ring fights under his belt.
