Short Shorts Film Festival 2005
29 June 2005 - 26 August 2005
From 29 June - 4 July 2005, the short films of two Australians, Steve Baker "Confessions of an Animation" and Renee Webster "SCOFF", have been selected from 2,050 entries worldwide to be included in the 7th Short Shorts Film Festival (SSFF). Co-organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, in 2005 the SSFF has expanded to be held together with SSFF ASIA, screening approximately 90 short films.
The Short Shorts Film Festival (SSFF) is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as qualifying for the annual US Academy Awards, and is a centre for short image-based work in Japan.
Confessions of an Animation
Steve Baker | 3:52 | Animation | Australia | 2004
This film is the perfect cure for a bad day. Meet the cute and cuddly bunny who has much more, ah, adult aspirations. The one-eyed smiley face who doesn't know he isn't human. The unfinished pencil sketch who is more than a little resentful of what his animator left off. You'll be laughing too hard to remember what had you down in the first place.
Steve has a Diploma of Animation and studied at various film institutes in Australia. He quit his job as a concierge to create "Confessions" on a home computer in 2 weeks on a budget of $0, improvising all of the dialog himself in one take. Also a talented musician, he has performed as a harmonica soloist in The Sydney Opera House and worked on soundtracks for American feature films.

SCOFF
Renee Webster | 11:48 | Comedy | Australia | 2003
A cook with a penchant for sweet things, Alice fights a daily battle to resist the chocolate cake she serves the burly workers on a ranch in Western Australia. To make matters worse, she is under the scrutiny of the ranch workers as they run a betting ring to see how long it takes for her to scoff the cake. But when Alice discovers a new way to indulge, the pleasure she derives is guiltless, and ultimately a lot less lonely.
"Scoff" is Renee's first foray into directing drama. Previously, she directed the short documentary "Growing Wild" for Australian broadcast. She has also worked in various capacities on television productions and commercials, produced the feature film Triggermen, and recently directed a children's drama series for Australian television. Renee received a bachelor's degree in communications from Murdoch University in 1995. Renee is interested in telling character driven stories about all things gritty in life.
