Dream Cup Solar Car Race Suzuka 2010
31 July 2010 - 1 August 2010
The Dream Cup Solar Race Suzuka 2010, sponsored by Honda, is the world’s greatest of all the solar car races authorised by Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). This year, 82 teams will be participating, including teams from Australia and the Netherlands. Melbourne, Australia’s Aurora Vehicle Association team is coming to win but will face stiff competition.
The Solar Car Race Suzuka started in 1992 with the idea of pursuing the next-generation car by harnessing the power of sunlight. The race has since become a festival of bright, young engineers.
The Aurora Vehicle Association team took part in the original 1992 race in and has competed in Suzuka five other times since. Aurora is also the only team to have raced in every World Solar Challenge (the race across Australia) since 1987. Aurora is a volunteer association, and all of the team members come to Suzuka with a vision of clean transportation for the future.
The team members are David Fewchuk, Tom Baker, Derrick Rodgers, Andris Samsons, Daniel Mills, Will Marshall and Matt Kay.
The Dream Cup Solar Race Suzuka 2010 has two categories of competition, 8-hour endurance and 4-hour endurance. Come out and enjoy the races and a bit of time out in the sunshine.
