The Nagoya Players "What the Butler Saw"

18 June 2005 - 19 June 2005

For their 30th anniversary production, on the 18th and 19th June 2005 at the Aichi Arts Center Mini Theatre the Nagoya Players will present Joe Orton's "What the Butler Saw" in English with an all-foreign cast directed by Oliver Millinghan.

Orton's wickedly funny satire was first performed in 1969, two years after the author's untimely death. It shocked the theatre-going public of that time with its gender-bending antics and caustic portrayal of the unseemly private lives of seemingly respectable pillars of society. Since then the play has come to be accepted as a comedy classic. The dialogue sparkles with hilarious Wildean one-liners, and the plot is packed with mishaps, changes of fortune, delightful twists, and innumerable turns.

Actress and writer Kelly Forrester hails from Cairns and has been in Japan for four years. Two of her plays, "Changing Channels" and "Skits" have been produced in Australia, and she has appeared in several TV commercials. Jack Ananda is a native of Perth and was a professional stage actor in Australia before moving to Japan. In his home country he worked for Tropic Line Theatre Company, When Salt Gets in Your Wine Cabaret troupe, Lindstock Theatre Company, and Queensland Arts Council.
